Badlands Consortium - Solo for Bass Trombone & Ableton
Join the Consortium for "Badlands" here!
Consortium Lead: Bradley Snyder
Projected Instrumentation:
Bass Trombone & Ableton Live
Inspiration:
The Badlands in South Dakota are a striking and rugged landscape known for their dramatic, eroded formations, deep canyons, towering spires, and layered rock structures that display bands of vibrant colors. These geological features were shaped by millions of years of deposition, erosion, and volcanic activity. The terrain is a mix of sharp ridges, steep cliffs, and pinnacles, with vast stretches of grassland interspersed.
The Badlands’ harsh, otherworldly beauty is complemented by its dynamic light changes throughout the day, especially during sunrise and sunset when the rock formations glow.
The work will feature a Bass Trombone solo that interacts with an Ableton Live session, where the performer cues scenes throughout the work.
Length: 4 - 6 minutes total
Project Completion Timeline: June 2025
What you will receive:
Bass Trombone Part - this will include markings for scene cues
An Ableton Live session that will include all audio and a key to the logistical mapping needed to hold a performance.
What you will need:
Ableton Live 12 - this should run on a laptop.
Access to a Stereo Out set-up
A MIDI Foot-Controller for use with Ableton Live (or an assistant who will change scenes on another controller or laptop)
